How moving day goes with us

The video takes a minute; a real moving day takes a few hours. Below is the whole day in the order it actually happens: what you do before we arrive, and what we do from then on. It is based on how we have handled more than 2,900 moves in the Helsinki region with our own trucks and our own crew.

Before we arrive: what you prepare

Moving day really starts the evening before. The single most useful thing you can do is close every box and label it by room: kitchen, bedroom, bathroom. A labelled box goes straight to the right room in the new home; an unlabelled one sits in the hallway waiting for a decision, and that shows up in the hours.

• Boxes closed and labelled. Heavy things such as books and dishes in smaller boxes.
• Wardrobes and drawers empty, loose shelves removed and packed separately.
• Washing machine disconnected, fridge defrosted and dried the day before.
• Routes clear: hallway rugs rolled up, doors open, lift booked if your housing company requires it.
• Valuables, documents, keys and medication in one bag that travels with you, not in the truck.

Arrival and walkthrough

The truck arrives at the agreed time, just like the opening of the video. Before a single box is lifted, the crew lead walks through the flat with you. Together you check what goes and what stays, which items need special care (mirrors, paintings, glass cabinets, instruments) and which route the big pieces will take out. You also agree where the truck parks and whether there is anything in the stairwell to watch out for.

The walkthrough takes a few minutes and easily saves an hour: when everyone knows the order, nobody stands in the corridor holding a sofa and wondering whether it will clear the corner.

Protection: blankets, floors and stairwell

Next comes protection. Soft moving blankets are wrapped around sofas, tables and chests of drawers and secured with film or straps so they stay put on the stairs as well. Mirrors and paintings get their own covers and travel upright, never flat under a stack of boxes.

Floors and the stairwell are protected along the route: protective runners or cardboard in the hallway and corridors, door frames and lift walls covered where needed. This matters most in freshly painted stairwells and on parquet. A small effort that saves a conversation with the housing company.

If you want extra protection for light-coloured upholstered furniture, it can be fully wrapped in stretch film. Mention it in your quote request and the film will be on the truck.

Loading order

The truck is not filled in whatever order things happen to be standing in the hallway. Heavy and sturdy items go first: washing machine, fridge, bookcases, sofa and towers of boxes. They form the base of the load against the front wall. Lighter furniture and mattresses then fill the gaps, and fragile items go in last, together with everything you want out first: the first-night box, the pram, the plants.

Each layer is strapped down before the next one goes in, so the load does not shift on cobblestones or at junctions. You see this stage for a second in the video, but in real life it is the mover's most important skill.

The drive

While we drive, you get to the new address at your own pace. Within the Helsinki region the trip is usually short; on long-distance moves we agree on an arrival time and call if the schedule changes. The same crew that loaded also unloads, so nobody has to guess where the fragile box went.

The hourly rate from €90/h includes the truck, the movers, fuel and insurance, so the kilometres are not a separate surprise. Sunday costs the same as Tuesday; there is no weekend surcharge. The exact figures are on the pricing page.

Unloading and placing furniture

At the new home, protection goes down first, exactly as at the start. Then the load comes out in reverse order: fragile items and the first-night box first, then boxes to their rooms according to the labels, and finally the big pieces straight into place. Bed in the bedroom, sofa in the living room, table in the kitchen.

Furniture goes exactly where you point, not roughly there. That is why it pays to decide the layout in advance. Blankets come off only once a piece is in position, and we check together that everything is intact.

Handover and payment

When the last box is inside, we walk through the flat once more together: is the furniture in the right place, is there anything you want moved, is anything left in the truck. The blankets and film leave with us, and if you ordered rental boxes, we collect them on the agreed day.

Payment is handled on the spot by card or MobilePay, or we send an invoice. If you prefer to split the amount, Resurs Bank part-payment is available. The receipt arrives by email.

And then the part you see at the end of the video: everything in place the same day. You have time to make coffee from the first-night box.

What happens if…

…the lift is broken or booked?

We carry via the stairs. Tell us about a missing or uncertain lift in the quote request and we size the crew and the time accordingly. If the lift breaks down on the morning itself, we carry on regardless: the job takes a little longer, and the hourly rate stays the same.

…it rains or snows?

We move in every weather. In rain, furniture is wrapped more tightly and the truck is parked as close to the front door as possible so the outdoor stretch is short. In snow we keep the route clear and protect the floors more carefully, because wet shoes and parquet do not mix.

…there is more stuff than I said?

It is common and nothing to stress about. Extra items are loaded if they fit in the truck; if not, we agree on a second run. The work is billed by the time used, so there is no surprise. Just tell us as early as you can, ideally during the morning walkthrough.
