Kallio to Arabianranta — no elevator
A real moving day from start to finish: 30 m³ of belongings, seven floors of stairs and a brand-new building where everyone moved in on the same day. Here is how it went — and what it cost.
The starting point
The customer was moving from a studio on the 7th floor in Kallio — a building with no elevator — to a brand-new two-room flat in Arabianranta. About 30 m³ of belongings, so we booked the big truck and three movers.
How the day went
- Loading in Kallio: 1.5 hours. Seven floors of stairs down — this is where three movers is exactly right: two carry while one loads the truck, and nobody stands idle.
- The drive to Arabianranta — a short leg, everything protected with moving blankets.
- Carrying in: 2.5 hours. The new building had an elevator, but the whole house was moving in on the same day — there was a queue. The team made a quick call: stairs to the third floor. Faster than waiting.
What it cost
Agreed before the move: €240 starting package (incl. 2 h, big truck + 3 movers)
Actual duration: longer than estimated — the 7th floor with no elevator and the elevator queue at the new building stretched the day
Final total: €420 — no other costs.
A good example of how a move lives: the estimate is made in advance, but stairs, elevator queues and carrying distances show up in the final hours. That is why we state the hourly rate and the estimate honestly up front — and bill only the actual time.
What this move can teach
- Top floors without an elevator are not an obstacle — they are just hours. The third mover pays for itself in speed.
- Moving into a new building? Ask the housing company how many households move in on the same day — plan the elevator reservation or the stairs option in advance.
- Agree the starting package and hourly rate in writing — then even overruns are transparent, like here: €240 → €420, with no surprise lines.
